Sermon Series – Parables about Love and Forgiveness

In a world of overdone bullet points, we instinctively know our best instruction comes from stories.

Some of the best advice begins like this: “You know, something like this happened to me once….”  Stories. Parables. People have used them for generations to instruct, comfort, and inspire.  The greatest teacher “taught them many things, using stories.” (Mark 4:2)

Parables are windows into complexity and bring out the truth in a world filled with facts.
In the month of February, we are looking at the parables that Jesus shared about “Love and Forgiveness.”

Feb. 2 | Two Debtors

Two Debtors - Parables
She couldn’t help how she felt about him. They couldn’t get over THAT woman making a fuss over Jesus. She was too over the top in her devotion for Jesus.

Jesus doesn’t respond to their criticism by a lecture, he just shares a simple story that helps them make sense of her devotion.

Feb. 9 | Marriage Emphasis

Marriage Emphasis Weekend - Southlake Baptist Church

Feb. 16 | Unforgiving Servant

Parable of the Unforgiving Servant - Southlake Baptist Church
Forgiveness is sometimes misunderstood. Peter asks Jesus, “How often should I forgive the guy who sins against me?” Instead of giving Peter a list of steps, Jesus tells a simple story to give Peter insight into the nature of true forgiveness and extending that grace to others.

Feb. 23 | Good Samaritan

Parable of the Good Samaritan
How do we love our neighbors? What does that love look like? Jesus tells a story to help us understand what loving our neighbor looks like.
